Frequently asked questions

How do I download American Express transactions as Excel or CSV?

Sign in at americanexpress.com and open the card, then go to Statements & Activity. Recent years of transactions can be filtered and downloaded as Excel or CSV; monthly statements are PDFs, and older archived statements can be requested online. When you have an archived statement PDF, drop it in the converter above for the same Excel, CSV or QBO result.

Does it work with Amex business cards and bank accounts?

In most cases, yes. The parser works from layout heuristics (dates, amounts, running balances) rather than account-type templates, so personal cards (Gold, Platinum, Blue Cash and the rest), business card statements, and American Express checking/savings statements generally parse. Card statements list charges against payments and credits; the parser assigns each row's direction from the layout. The balance-match badge confirms the totals before you export.

What about the Membership Rewards points on my statement?

Points summaries are not transactions — the parser targets the dated list of charges, payments and credits, so the Membership Rewards recap does not become spreadsheet rows. If a summary line ever slips through, delete that row in the editable preview before exporting.

Where does my Amex statement go when I convert it?

The file goes nowhere: it is opened with JavaScript in your browser tab and never uploaded. The extracted text is parsed on our server in memory and discarded — never logged or stored.

Why not just copy and paste from the PDF?

PDF tables paste into Excel as jumbled single columns — dates, descriptions, amounts, and balances merged together. This tool understands the column structure, separates amounts from running balances, classifies debits vs credits, and verifies the math against the statement's own opening and closing balances.

I already paid but lost my license key — what do I do?

Every purchase emails you a Gumroad receipt that shows the license key. If that message is lost, search your inbox for "Gumroad" and open the receipt to copy your key. Then re-activate here via the "Enter license key" link in the top navigation.
