What's the difference between OFX and QBO?

They're the same family — QBO is QuickBooks' flavor of the Open Financial Exchange standard (OFX 1.x "Web Connect"). The practical differences are strictness, not substance: QuickBooks Desktop expects clean OFX 1.x SGML and refuses OFX 2.x XML outright. This converter parses your file — 1.x or 2.x — and rewrites it in the exact Web Connect shape QuickBooks imports.

QuickBooks Desktop wouldn't import my OFX file — will this fix it?

If the cause is an OFX 2.x file, a missing or malformed header, or a nonstandard wrapper — yes, that's exactly what this page repairs. After conversion, import via File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files. The first time, QuickBooks may ask you to confirm which account the file belongs to; that's normal and the import still completes.

Does this help with QuickBooks Online?

Usually you don't need it: QuickBooks Online's Banking → Upload transactions accepts .ofx files directly. This converter is mainly for QuickBooks Desktop, which is far stricter. That said, the QBO it produces imports into Online just as well.

Is it safe to convert bank files here?

Safer than most alternatives: the file never travels anywhere. There is no upload button wired to a server — the conversion is plain JavaScript executing in your browser tab, and closing the tab discards everything.
