What exactly is an OFX file?
OFX (Open Financial Exchange) is the veteran standard banks use for transaction downloads — it's the format behind the "Microsoft Money" or "Quicken" options in many banks' download centers. Inside you'll find one record per transaction: date posted, amount, payee name, and memo.
Which programs use OFX files?
QuickBooks (as .qbo Web Connect), the retired Microsoft Money, GnuCash, Moneydance, and many bank download portals. If your software won't import OFX — or you simply want to read your transactions — converting to CSV is the universal fallback.
How do I open or import an OFX file in Excel?
Excel can't read OFX files directly — that's exactly the gap this page fills. Do you support both OFX 1.x and OFX 2.x?
Yes. OFX 1.x uses SGML (tags without closing pairs), while OFX 2.x is strict XML. The parser detects and reads both automatically, including the transaction blocks, dates with timestamps, and escaped characters in payee names.
Is it safe to convert bank files here?
Safer than most alternatives: the file never travels anywhere. There is no upload button wired to a server — the conversion is plain JavaScript executing in your browser tab, and closing the tab discards everything.
I already paid but lost my license key — what do I do?
Check your inbox first: your Gumroad receipt, emailed immediately after payment, shows the license key. Still missing? Search your inbox for "Gumroad" and open the receipt to copy it. Then open "Enter license key" from the top navigation on this page and validate to restore full exports.
